Eligible organizations must have an official nonprofit designation as shown by incorporation in the State of Maryland and Federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt designation. Organizations without those designations must obtain a fiscal sponsor (see below for more information on fiscal sponsorship). Organizations must also be in good standing with the State of Maryland, as evidenced by a current Certificate of Good Standing.
A fiscal sponsor serves as the administrative entity for organizations that are not yet recognized as tax-exempt by the Internal Revenue Service. The fiscal sponsor provides fiduciary oversight, financial management, and other administrative services on behalf of the grantee, including receiving and disbursing BCYF grant funds to the grantee.
Organizations and programs without a Federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status must use a fiscal sponsor to secure BCYF grant funding.
